I'm was an assistance news editor for a local newspaper in Malaysia and had been working in the media industry for more that 11 years. During my offdays since three years back, I use my spare time ... See More
This is an old wheelchair and had been lying more that two years. What I intend to do now is to rebuild, refurbished and restore it into something new.
Once it's complete, I want to give it away to one person who is in need of it. For free and no charges.
This is the wheelchair that I want to rebuild dan restore into something new. It'a a tilt in space wheelchair for Cerebral Palsy children. The size of the wheelchair is 14".
Let me share with you it's current condition. Let's have a closer look below here:
There is rust and some missing parts.
Tires, spoke need to be replaced plus wheel and wheel bearings needs some inspection.
Armrest needs to be replace inner and outer side
No hand brakes and need to get a new set
Judging from its current condition, it might look like some junk to others. But after inspecting its body, I can tell you that it actually is still in good shape. All it needs is some work to be done. Why do we need to add more trash into this world when we can recycle and rebulid it. Wheelchair (Tilt in Space) is quite expensive even if it is from China. This piece you're seeing is from Japan.
I started some minor works in removing some of the rusty parts and started cleaning it up. The component is still in the process to be restored. Below is a few pictures of the condition before and after restoration process:
Estimated cost
Repair body and wheel alignment : RM400
New undercoat and paint : RM200
Complete new custom seating system : RM1,400
Custom armrest : RM200
New hand brake : RM300
Back tire and rim set : RM400
Front caster wheels and bearings: RM300
Miscellaneous : RM300
Total: RM3,500
This is me demonstrating one of the wheelchair I modified for a new custom seating system.
As I put all of my knowledge, effort, time and resources, all I need now is your kind support to make this dream comes true.
I would say there might be some delays to production due to the unforeseen reasons. This is because some of the parts I'm gonna use is custom built.
We will be dealing with multiple suppliers including material and sourcing parts and this will add complexity and might effect the delivering time.

I'm was an assistance news editor for a local newspaper in Malaysia and had been working in the media industry for more that 11 years. During my offdays since three years back, I use my spare time helping out a friend who repairs wheelchair. As times goes by, I felt happy doing something that make a person smile, especially wheelchair users. This becomes my new hobby. At that time, some of my friends suggest I use my position as a media practitioner to gain cash support and connection from various parties to get work done. And I don't intend to do that. It's not fair for everyone and I personally don't want to build something in life that's based on taking advantage. I would like as many people as possible to lend a hand in transforming this wheelchair into a brand new one.
I will email you a thank you letter and a shout out in a video for this project.
